Instead, he goes after the front and rear ends of the car, areas he feels were awful and need some plastic surgery.īefore you start looking at Foose’s drawing like it’s some sort of weird work of Picasso, know he wasn’t going for a Cubist feel. Despite kind of complaining about the plain stainless steel body, Foose leaves that element untouched. Surprisingly, the man doesn’t paint the car some bright color. But what kind of magic will Foose apply to it? image credit: YouTube Of course, some people have customized DeLoreans in real life and lived to tell the tale. Some people absolutely loved his fresh, unique approach to these cars while others didn’t.Īs for the DeLorean DMC-12, a car popularized by the Back to the Future series, many feel its sacred ground not to be meddled with. We’ve seen Foose do quite a few revisions to classic car designs in the near past, including the first-generation Toyota MR2, Lamborghini Countach, Mini, and first-generation Ford Bronco. We expect a mixed reaction to his latest venture: tweaking the DeLorean DMC-12. And there are other people who like some of his creations but aren’t fans of others. Others wretch in horror at what he’s done to classics, both on paper and in steel. Some people absolutely fawn over every design he pens and car he customizes.
There’s little doubt that Chip Foose is a controversial figure in the automotive community. Especially when your sitting in the garage looking at it and drinking beers with dear old dad. He’s ruined so many other classic designs, why not this one as well? Good luck and be ready for a long and expensive project. I am betting that your father deserves it after more than likely spending a lot of time helping you with your game. Like I said there is no feeling in the world then the first drive in a newly finished project car.
After having shops build me cars I know how frustrating it can be so know this going in. Always keep in mind that whatever you think it will cost double it. Good luck! Don't get too hung up on names. It will give everyone an idea of what you want and help you determine what color scheme will look best. Just like you see Chip do before starting a project. For a couple hundred bucks you can have a car artist do a rendering of the finished vehicle. Ask to see pictures of their work and if possible talk to someone who has had their car restored by the shop. Go to the shop and explain what you want to achieve. Call around and find a few shops that can do the work in your area. Chip Foose is great, he does have a great price to go with his name. Keep in mind that your looking at $10K's to achieve that dream and at the very least a solid year of work. Truly nothing is more rewarding that seeing a dream come together.
#CHIP FOOSE DRAWINGS FULL#
All said and done my full blown 1999 Chevy truck cost $82K start to finish and that was 8 years ago. The paint, just the paint, not the labor, the sealer, the clear, cost me $11K for my truck. Either way to do a frame off restoration, clean paint, engine build, interior and everything else your still looking at upwards of $60K. There are many good restoration shops especially in Southern California. However, like any brand name your going to pay for it. Chip is a good car guy, he knows his stuff and has the people to do the work. Seriously about a $100K+ for Chip to even look at your car.
